Don’t Follow the Trends, Find Out Who You Are.

Fab diets, a certain type of yoga, a different meditation, it changes every week. What is popular is based on what is trending, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that what is popular will be good for you or even work for you. We are all very different and what may work for one person may not work for another person. It is about finding what works for you, this can change based on what period of your life you are in and what your lifestyle is.

It is for this reason I love Ayurveda. Because it helps to find out who you are (your unique body/mind composition) and from that place find things that work for you! How awesome is that! No more guessing.

Because we are all different and because we have different imbalances based on how we are living we all need different techniques, modalities, diets and lifestyle changes. We are all different. What works for one person, probably won’t work for a different person. This applies not only to food, but to yoga and meditation.

For example nuts may be great for a Vata, which will help ground them and give them the oil they desire because they are so dry. For a Pitta nuts will make them break out, or have too much oil. For a Kapha nuts will slow their digestion down and cause congestion. Food can be medicine for some, and poison for others.

A certain type of yoga practice for instance may be very beneficial for one person, but then when they get their friend to try it, they may find their friend doesn’t have the same reaction. Perhaps they may even feel agitated or irritated. This applies to meditation as well. Perhaps a meditation was really working for you at some point in your life. You were able to relax and let go and felt at peace, but then life changes and things become very chaotic and you have a very hard time focusing with the mediation you are doing. After some time you give up the practice because you are not able to keep up with it because you have too much going on and your mind is way to active, in that case switching to another form that helps to calm the rajasic mind would be more necessary.

Oftentimes we think, I am meditating, I am doing yoga, I am eating lots of vegetables etc, I should feel better. However, what you may be doing may not be right for YOU exactly. Just because it is mainstream or popular or because it worked for your neighbour doesn’t mean it will work for you.

I think knowing this is it important, otherwise we can get caught up in guilt or shame. Thinking we aren’t doing it right, or hard enough. That there must be something wrong with us because even though we think we are doing it all right, we aren’t getting positive results.

What is healthy for a person is based on a person and where they are in their life. We have to honour our differences, embrace them and then we can thrive in body, mind and spirit!

Magic – The Real Power Behind Intention

Magic? What is it exactly? Hollywood and many authors have shown it as something witches and wizards possess. They use it to their advantage against innocent victims. It’s been presented in a very dark and twisted way. But it’s not like that at all!

Magic is mystical but it is positive and there are rules that come with using magic. What would we say magic is? I believe magic is a creation of desired events that appear miraculously because it transcends time and space in how it presents itself.

How we do we get magic in our lives?

It comes through using the mind as a focused and precise channel for creation. 

Anyone is capable of making magic!

It is using your mind in a clear and focused way, channeling your intention in whatever you are doing and seeing (visualizing) your desired goal. Human beings were made in the image of God (as many monotheistic traditions say), that means we have the same capacity to create. However, our minds are full of thoughts. We create many things we don’t want because our thoughts are messy. We think about the problems we have, we focus on the drama or our dog ripping apart our sofa.When those thoughts get cleared with techniques like meditation and yoga then we begin to be able to focus on our thoughts in a constructive manner.

You are what you think and your dreams are directly correlated with how your life looks like. You can tell the limit of people’s thoughts by how their life is. If you believe something is impossible, it becomes impossible. The matrix is real and it is here and now, but it’s not in the way you think. It’s in your mind, not outside of you.  Your ability to control your thoughts directly impacts the environment around you.

A human being is a creator and they all possess the ability to manifest magic. 

It is believing that you have this ability, it is a belief in your ability to create, that allows this gift to blossom.

Magic is here and now and it’s only desire is for you to awaken and use it. You are powerful, you create everything around you both good and bad. What will you choose?

 Laws of Magic:

  • Do no harm.
  • Whatever you do will come back to you 3x times, either good or bad. So focus on the good
  • Make sure that you are not intending to interfere in anyone’s life or take away their free will
  • Be clear- affirm your intention strongly. If you don’t take it seriously, how can the universe?
  • visualize your intention as being a success, feel it, smell it, taste it. Engage all of your senses

The Importance of Reflection

There is a time for everything in life: Action and Inaction.

When we are in the midst of rapid change, frustration, major events it can seem that its crazy-madness; but there is order in the chaos. It takes a moment to step out of it, take some perspective and re-evaluate whats really happening. But that usually doesn’t happen when its happening (unless we are a super yogi…). And that’s okay.

We are humans and we were born to make mistakes. Its one of the main  ways to learn. The important thing is that once life has settled we take a moment to pause, breath and take in what happened. As much action there is, there needs to be the polarity of relaxation, of revaluation and contemplation. If we are constantly moving and never take  time to take in the sights then we miss the point of life. Life happens in the simple, in the little moments and its not about the end, its about how we got there.; Its about the experience learned, the conversations we had and the difficulties we over came along the way.

Radical self love, self forgiveness is a must and it takes patience and work to get there. To love ourselves as much as we love others, the divine etc. To forgive ourselves when we lost our footing, our head amongst the noise and say to ourselves ” It’s okay, I can do better next time”. We can be our worst enemy or our best friend. It is important to develop a strong and good relationship with ourselves because lets face it, you are with yourself 24/7. It takes practice but every time we take a moment after the fact to evaluate what happened and what we could do better the next time, it makes us better. It opens our minds and lets us see different perspectives. It creates space for change. 

No need to judge, criticize, or put ourselves or others down. See yourself and others a small child, although the body has grown we are just as sensitive and vulnerable as when we were younger. Acknowledge what happened and move forward with acceptance, gratitude for the lesson and with optimism. Life will throw everything it can at us, but its how we deal with it that creates character and a legacy.

Why I went Vegan- The most impactful way to help the Environment

I have been a vegetarian for over 5 years. People would ask me why I was images1a vegetarian and I had may responses. I would answer:

“Because I don’t feel right eating animals if I didn’t have the heart to kill them.. So why be okay with someone else doing the dirty work?”

” Because I don’t believe in violence in any form, it says “thou shalt not kill” in the Bible, animal lives are not exempt.”

” Because it lowers my frequency, I feel lower emotions like anger, jealously and have more destructive thoughts. It creates more restlessness in my life because when they kill the animals there is cortisol and hormones of fear released and then we consume that and it enters our bodies.”

All of these were good responses, but they weren’t GREAT… I knew it didn’t feel right, but I didn’t have a really convincing argument.

hqdefaultBut then..  I watched Cowspiracy and it all made sense. I have my GREAT reason. As an avid environmentalist, a human and animal rights activist but more so as a Guardian of Gaia I cannot eat meat and say I am an environmentalist. Our planet is facing a strain from the amount of pressure we are putting on it to extract resources in every space and form. As humans we have multiplied to over 7 Billion people and what we eat affects this planet more than we ever thought possible.

Cowspiracy, clearly explains that if the human population goes Vegan- sustaining from meat and dairy we can feed everyone, NO ONE would have to starve anymore.  Eating meat/ dairy is not sustainable for the worlds population and we cannot continue to ignore that our habits of eating must change.

Another benefit of going veggie for our planet is – we would be able to not only save the Amazon rainforest, but be able to start replanting so that it can grow back  (The Amazon is our planets lungs, more oxygen comes from that forest than the whole planet and an acre is destroyed every minute to plant soybeans to feed cows that we then eat as hamburgers, also land is changed for cow grazing land).  The environment would be impacted in a positive way and our global emissions of green houses would go down dramatically reversing climate change. eaf2bc15504779ccc85d1e339390ea69

The meat industry and the pharmaceutical companies do not want the citizens of the world to know that by going vegan, if only part of the time we can greatly help our planet. They have kept this a secret to keep their profits going. And it makes me think… Maybe the cows and pigs aren’t the only ones being farmed.. Could we be apart of some greater farm. Where we are the ones being milked for our money, at the expense of our planet, of our future.

We only have one planet and as conscious beings it is our responsibility to protect what we have been given. Watch the film and make your own decision.

Full Moon Night

Full moon, silent night, drifting tides
In the inner silence the truth lies.
Becoming as still as the surrounding trees
that dance so swiftly amongst the slight breeze.

I find harmony, my own little paradise from reality
No need to prove or push
Letting God be the leader and guide

There comes a rest that allows ones purpose to unfold
like petals of a cosmic mandala one comes to be known.

Not for knowledge they possess, but a way of living the resonates with the best.
No need to qualify, or transgress, finding peace amongst the city unrest.

There as the waves pound the shore, and then receding back into the core.
Like a heart that beat it rhythms, bringing life to all parts.
Recognizing we are not apart but part of a greater whole.
Born here to serve the ultimate, not just ourselves.

Full moon, quiet night, drifting tides
How you remind me of the peace that recides
deep within my core, showing me if I dive deep the waves will not rock me.
When I listen, how true wisdom unfolds
And I become the vessel for which I was born.

Yet, in my ignorance, I flee.
I toss myself in destructive tendencies to hide from reality,
from my potential and all the beauty that is within me.

Rather than a governing body that knows fear is only a test.
It is in the unknown that I become known.

Show me with your brightest light, that radiates from the moon,
how to ease myself back into your womb
So we may never separate and I will be that still serenity,
Which leads me back to you.
