#Realtalk about Human Suffering and the Environment

This post is my perspective on what is happening with the human species currently. It will not be watered down, or coated with sweet words to make the facts go down easier. I have been thinking about this for a while and I do not think that what I have come up with is a definite conclusion or that it is that simple. I do realize the global situation is complex, and there are many factors to what is happening worldwide at this time. But nonetheless, my intention is to open the minds that reads this to see life a bit differently, even if you don’t agree, at least exploring the idea with open curiosity.

Depression and anxiety rates are very high on this planet. Many, if not most people are under enough stress that it is negatively affecting their health. Adrenal fatigue, depression, anxiety are at alarmingly high rates. The surprising thing is that I live in North America where I am directly observing this. There is no war, no starvation, no lack of medical care, no severe poverty. Compared to many other places in the world we are doing pretty damn good. Of course there is some poverty and lack of resources, but I am talking about the general population- the mainstream (in North America). We are pretty well off, but I would not say we are happy – not satisfied as the Rolling Stones song goes ‘I can’t get no satisfaction’…. Oh the plight of the modern age. Of course, there are some people that are happy but again I am talking about the general population. If the general population was happy, there wouldn’t be so much talk about living your dream, trying to escape into some other life, advertising all sorts of material goods to buy to fill the emptiness, plastic surgery etc and depression, anxiety and stress rates wouldn’t be that high.

How many people do you know that are actually happy? Like really, actually happy? Not just saying it, not just pretending, but deeply happy and satisfied? I know a couple, but I wouldn’t say I know a few.

Humanity is chasing after an idea, an idea of happiness. An idea of the dream life. It is pretty, markable and people buy into it, sipping mojitos on a beach anyone? I don’t think it exists. I think that this chasing is a distraction from what is really happening and what is creating our lack of satisfaction. ‘It is never good enough, it is never enough’ is the mantra of our society.

Look at the state of our planet right now. Because of this endless desire, endless craving, the planet is greatly suffering, animals are going extinct at an alarming rate. Yes, this is uncomfortable. Yes, this is not unicorns and rainbows. But we have to face the facts. We cannot go into thinking it will magically take care of itself. Keep reading.

What causes the mass amounts of anxiety and the depression and this feeling of emptiness?

Humans are the stewards of the land. Go back thousands of years, into myth and stories, humans were the guardians. Humans were in relationship with the land. The land depended on us and we depended on it. Yet, now there is memes, ideas circulating that the planet would be better off without humans. The mentality of the human collective has created a state where it is better if humans didn’t exist. We have gone so far from our purpose. We have moved so far away from beings stewards of the land, being in connection with nature, that we are now the destroyers, parasites and viruses of Mother Earth. OH NO, not good… Doesn’t feel good or look good. Yucky..

Joy in connection

We do not protect, we take and take until there is nothing left, all the while doing it mindlessly. We are distracted – by our stressful jobs, our lack of time to do and think about things we enjoy, our cellphones, social media, the television the radio, the news etc. Everywhere we turn someone is telling us to think something, believe something. Giving us no place to be in silence to think for ourselves.

We have a relationship with nature. We take care of it and it takes care of us.

It is all bullshit. It is all a distraction from what is important.

I crave the freedom of my own mind to roam the meadows of my creative thoughts. To dream without interference, for that is when I have moments of deep reflections that I discover what life is really about. What really matters.

I am not writing this to put a new thought into your head. I am writing this for you to think in another way. The mind stream of the main stream heads in one direction, I am saying there is other directions. Sometimes we forget and need to be reminded. Think for yourself.

As I said above, depression and anxiety rates are high. Mental illness rates are high. The worst part being that these people are suffering and many people do not know. It is a silent illness. We can even pretend we are okay and that is why it is so deceiving.

I have struggled with depression and anxiety on and off in my life and what I have found that helped were a few things.

  • Being in nature and connecting with it
  • Being with community and connecting with it
  • Prayer and meditation and connecting with the Divine.
  • Exercising and connecting with my emotions, sweat and tears
  • Writing, painting, connecting with my creativity
  • Slowing down and connecting with my self
  • Connecting to something greater than myself in purpose
The stars tell us a lot about ourselves

There has always been an element of connection. When we connect to things within us and outside of us, we feel better. When we isolate ourselves, feel unsupported we struggle, and don’t know how we will get through. Disconnecting with thoughts and emotions because they are painful and we don’t want to look at them can cause depression. Letting those thoughts be acknowledged and accepted leads us to healing. Re-connecting, re-mending all parts of our minds and psyches leads to healing, just like our flesh.

CONNECTION is vital for our mental and emotional health

(This is a whole discussion in itself but online interaction is not the same as physically being with people. We do not get the juiciness of the interaction, the energetic exchange. It feels and is different.)

Only people smiling are the ones actually interacting…

Nature, we all feel better in nature. Many of my favourite memories are in nature.

Nature has been scientifically proven to reduce our stress rates. Nature does a lot more and the ancients knew that, but science is a bit behind proving. Eventually, they will get there.

Nature is us, and when we are disconnected from it and live in big cities and never get the chance to put our feet in the soil we feel like shit. The earth is the best medicine. I believe that humans are the stewards of the land. We are the guardians of this planet and that is our purpose. I believe depression and anxiety rates are high because we are severely nature deprived, the nature vitamin is missing in our lives. As well, a big part of it is that humans are not connecting, protecting and fostering life/nature and deep down in our subconscious we know this.

Its time we change the story we are writing as a human species

When humans do heroic acts it is celebrated. When a person saves a dog or a child from drowning in an ice lake, when we save a baby bird that has fallen out of the nest we feel good. We feel like our life has meaning. Other people also feel good when they witness these acts. It opens their hearts. That is why we support and buy from organizations and companies that are trying to help and do good things.

Humans are life sustainer, creators and protectors and when we destroy life we suffer because we are life. Focusing on helping life outside of us, helps our life. Humans want to do the right thing and I believe, that when humans aren’t doing what they feel is right, or in alignment with their values, they feel guilty deep inside and this creates the source of inner conflict that leads to hopelessness, depression and anxiety.

Humans protect life.

We want to do the right thing, we want to save the oceans, we want to save the forests, we want to save the animals. We don’t want to pollute the environment. But we are busy, we may feel we do not have the energy to make change and don’t even know where to start, we may be focused on other things. Instead we may be hyper focused on our self, our own suffering and missing the bigger picture. That we are connected to all life forms and if they suffer, we suffer. Of course there is other issues, traumas, unhealthy belief systems, suppressed emotions within us that are contributing to our unhappiness but I am focused on our lack of connection with nature and living beings.

I am still sitting with this thought, and it will evolve and shift as I discover and cleanse my own perceptions. But what now feels to be true to me is that we are severely disconnected and as a human society in need of connection. Connection to self, to family and friends, to community, and to nature. Coming back to being protectors, guardians of the Mother Earth and living in accordance with fostering life. Choosing actions that create life and protect it rather than diminish it. Buying less things to fill our emptiness and instead connecting with living beings that brings us joy (be it people, animals, trees, flowers etc). Bringing in more of the sacred into our lives, and reconnecting to the little, simple things that make us human (complexity creates stress). I think we will find more peace then. Perhaps we won’t be as worried about the future, because we are doing what we want to see happen in the whole world.

If every person makes that change, to be more in connection with nature and living beings, to protect and help life, then we all change and the world changes. I wonder then if the hopelessness with diminish if not totally disappear?

What emotions and feelings came up as you read this? Anger, sadness, despair, worry, hope, interest, excitement? Be curious, explore it. What do you think and feel?

Invoking the Divine Feminine

Sat nam Beauties,

I had a request from many people after my women’s workshop to post the invocation I did as we called down Mother Earth and the energies of the Divine Feminine. This invocation can be used a prayer, a meditation, and/or  you can do a daily  spiritual practice to bring the Divine Feminine into your being. I hope you enjoy and may these words inspire you and remind you of the power that is within You!!

To do the Invocation Raise your arms up to 60 Degrees. Focus on your heart and say these words and feel the presence of the highest power coming into your being.

Invocation of the Divine Feminine

We call down Maha Shakti,

The Great Goddess,

The Life Giver and the Ultimate Mother.

We call her to Awake in US.

We call her to ignite us with our purpose as Creators to make a better world.

We call on Great Mother that rages in the rivers, the one that sustains and maintains all life force.

The one that causes our hearts to beat, that moves our blood through the veins of your oceans and rivers.

Like the rain the pours, your tears cleanse us until we are reborn.

We call on you Great Mother, to take out bodies and merge into form.

For it is with your power we are Reborn.

Shakti, We call on you to awake. Great Mother we call on you to Awake.

The world needs you now.

We need your guidance to show us the right direction.

We need your power to provide protection.

We need your soft touch to heal our wounds.

We need your creativity to show us the solutions.

We need your power to change, and we need your courage to hold the energy you sustain.

Oh Great Mother we call on you now.

To awake within us our truth, creativity and our life breathing Destiny!

So we can serve relentlessly. So we can make this world one of peace, love and harmony.

For WE are Shakti!

I am calling on myself to Wake up!

I am in need of my self right now. The world needs me now!

I am a woman and I am the vessel of creation.

I am the Creator.

I am a Woman!!

Full Moon Night

Full moon, silent night, drifting tides
In the inner silence the truth lies.
Becoming as still as the surrounding trees
that dance so swiftly amongst the slight breeze.

I find harmony, my own little paradise from reality
No need to prove or push
Letting God be the leader and guide

There comes a rest that allows ones purpose to unfold
like petals of a cosmic mandala one comes to be known.

Not for knowledge they possess, but a way of living the resonates with the best.
No need to qualify, or transgress, finding peace amongst the city unrest.

There as the waves pound the shore, and then receding back into the core.
Like a heart that beat it rhythms, bringing life to all parts.
Recognizing we are not apart but part of a greater whole.
Born here to serve the ultimate, not just ourselves.

Full moon, quiet night, drifting tides
How you remind me of the peace that recides
deep within my core, showing me if I dive deep the waves will not rock me.
When I listen, how true wisdom unfolds
And I become the vessel for which I was born.

Yet, in my ignorance, I flee.
I toss myself in destructive tendencies to hide from reality,
from my potential and all the beauty that is within me.
Terrified of the light that I was born to shine.
I have forgotten and run to what seems warm.
Only to spiral down.
It is in my habits that I lose the choice and become a repeat of the past.
Rather than a governing body that knows fear is only a test.
It is in the unknown that I become known.

Show me with your brightest light, that radiates from the moon,
how to ease myself back into your womb
So we may never separate and I will be that still serenity,
Which leads me back to you.

Ah Ha Moments: The Fire of Wisdom

You know those times when a light bulb goes off and you finally get it. Feels great right?

Well those are the moments that we learn, our mind literally lights up. An electric impulse is send from one neuron to another; yet this time a new connection is made, a new path is formed and we understand things from a completely different angle. A chemical change occurs, a new wiring in the brain and we come to really ‘know’ something.

Many times we say we ‘know’, but all that is really happening is that we intellectually understand the concept trying to be conveyed. Yet, ‘real knowing’, or what we call wisdom is gained through experience. It is when we have felt the feelings, went through the process and can explain from a deeper part than our mind. It is as though the knowledge has sunk a little deeper and is now a hearts truth, rather than a mental concept. c85dac670af71f8c58eff72fb48a475e

Wisdom is experienced through our senses. We ‘know’ when something is hot when we touch it and we know the effect of it. The connection of heat and that object is ingrained in our mind. Whereas, someone can tell us something is hot for days, we will be able to describe it and reflect back what they have told us, but we won’t necessarily know. It will be coming from a shallow place.

This may be why enlightenment and spiritual truths don’t always make sense. If we aren’t at that capacity yet or haven’t had the experience then we won’t know what they are talking about. It is why we can read a book many times and each time get more meaning out of it. As we open our mind and experience more, we hear different things. But it is through experiencing spiritual truths that we understand them and integrate them into our life.

We can talk, we can write, but if we don’t experience it than it is empty. It is just sitting in the mind. The fire of wisdom is waiting but action is what will spark it.

Experience, live it and know it.

Black Sheep: Feeling isolated in a crowd of thousands ( Burning man )

Festivals and large gatherings are intended to be places we feel united and complete; where as human beings we flow in unison with a common idea and objective. Yet, sometimes we feel alone amongst the crowds. Why?

At Burning man where there are thousands of loving people gathered together to explore an alternate way of living. There was connection but there was also another side to the veil. One of separateness and isolation. During my week at Burning man (and other people I have spoken to) there was a sense of loneliness experienced.

I wondered how is it possible to feel alone, when surrounded by friends and thousands of people? What does this say about our society? What is the root cause?

From my investigation into my experience, I believe it showed what was already there. That loneliness was resting deep within me, but its at places like Burning Man we don’t have worldly things to worry about so they become more prominent. For example, at B-man you don’t have to worry about your food, bills, job etc; you only have your mind to deal with and so what wasn’t obvious before becomes clear.

Additionally, in our present society, people are alone more than ever, even when we have cellphones, social media etc. We lack intimate connections and face to face experiences. We may be communicating with numerous people at the same time, but we lack the depth and the energy exchange that occurs with physical encounters. Our social world is becoming shallow where we present how we want to appear to the world rather than how we actually are feeling and so there is a discrepancy between our soul and our external world. At B-man I believe loneliness was under the surface of our awareness but became more obvious. These feelings came up so that we could travel through them, heal and release them. Because it is only through going through fear can you overcome it. It is only by feeling separate can we rise above it and connect. Also, all feelings are alerts and we must bring our attention to why we are feeling this way and with loving kindness take care of that part of ourselves.

Large groups of people are also overwhelming and we may feel alone as we disappear amongst the crowd. Not getting as much attention as we normally would because there is just so many people. Our ego merges with the group but a part of ourselves still feels isolated as though it doesn’t quite fit in, or isn’t welcome and may even fight the idea of joining a group. Yet, these are all belief systems and can be overcome with time.

It was from feeling alone and separate during that week in the desert that I realized I had work to do to feel complete. For me it was a spiritual craving to connect with people and I wasn’t getting it from my circumstances. It drove me to find connections I felt were authentic, deep and on the same frequency. It also gave me a mirror within myself to see that I needed to spend time with myself and befriend my own being, because in the end, who is left but you.

Love<3
