#Realtalk about Human Suffering and the Environment

This post is my perspective on what is happening with the human species currently. It will not be watered down, or coated with sweet words to make the facts go down easier. I have been thinking about this for a while and I do not think that what I have come up with is a definite conclusion or that it is that simple. I do realize the global situation is complex, and there are many factors to what is happening worldwide at this time. But nonetheless, my intention is to open the minds that reads this to see life a bit differently, even if you don’t agree, at least exploring the idea with open curiosity.

Depression and anxiety rates are very high on this planet. Many, if not most people are under enough stress that it is negatively affecting their health. Adrenal fatigue, depression, anxiety are at alarmingly high rates. The surprising thing is that I live in North America where I am directly observing this. There is no war, no starvation, no lack of medical care, no severe poverty. Compared to many other places in the world we are doing pretty damn good. Of course there is some poverty and lack of resources, but I am talking about the general population- the mainstream (in North America). We are pretty well off, but I would not say we are happy – not satisfied as the Rolling Stones song goes ‘I can’t get no satisfaction’…. Oh the plight of the modern age. Of course, there are some people that are happy but again I am talking about the general population. If the general population was happy, there wouldn’t be so much talk about living your dream, trying to escape into some other life, advertising all sorts of material goods to buy to fill the emptiness, plastic surgery etc and depression, anxiety and stress rates wouldn’t be that high.

How many people do you know that are actually happy? Like really, actually happy? Not just saying it, not just pretending, but deeply happy and satisfied? I know a couple, but I wouldn’t say I know a few.

Humanity is chasing after an idea, an idea of happiness. An idea of the dream life. It is pretty, markable and people buy into it, sipping mojitos on a beach anyone? I don’t think it exists. I think that this chasing is a distraction from what is really happening and what is creating our lack of satisfaction. ‘It is never good enough, it is never enough’ is the mantra of our society.

Look at the state of our planet right now. Because of this endless desire, endless craving, the planet is greatly suffering, animals are going extinct at an alarming rate. Yes, this is uncomfortable. Yes, this is not unicorns and rainbows. But we have to face the facts. We cannot go into thinking it will magically take care of itself. Keep reading.

What causes the mass amounts of anxiety and the depression and this feeling of emptiness?

Humans are the stewards of the land. Go back thousands of years, into myth and stories, humans were the guardians. Humans were in relationship with the land. The land depended on us and we depended on it. Yet, now there is memes, ideas circulating that the planet would be better off without humans. The mentality of the human collective has created a state where it is better if humans didn’t exist. We have gone so far from our purpose. We have moved so far away from beings stewards of the land, being in connection with nature, that we are now the destroyers, parasites and viruses of Mother Earth. OH NO, not good… Doesn’t feel good or look good. Yucky..

Joy in connection

We do not protect, we take and take until there is nothing left, all the while doing it mindlessly. We are distracted – by our stressful jobs, our lack of time to do and think about things we enjoy, our cellphones, social media, the television the radio, the news etc. Everywhere we turn someone is telling us to think something, believe something. Giving us no place to be in silence to think for ourselves.

We have a relationship with nature. We take care of it and it takes care of us.

It is all bullshit. It is all a distraction from what is important.

I crave the freedom of my own mind to roam the meadows of my creative thoughts. To dream without interference, for that is when I have moments of deep reflections that I discover what life is really about. What really matters.

I am not writing this to put a new thought into your head. I am writing this for you to think in another way. The mind stream of the main stream heads in one direction, I am saying there is other directions. Sometimes we forget and need to be reminded. Think for yourself.

As I said above, depression and anxiety rates are high. Mental illness rates are high. The worst part being that these people are suffering and many people do not know. It is a silent illness. We can even pretend we are okay and that is why it is so deceiving.

I have struggled with depression and anxiety on and off in my life and what I have found that helped were a few things.

  • Being in nature and connecting with it
  • Being with community and connecting with it
  • Prayer and meditation and connecting with the Divine.
  • Exercising and connecting with my emotions, sweat and tears
  • Writing, painting, connecting with my creativity
  • Slowing down and connecting with my self
  • Connecting to something greater than myself in purpose
The stars tell us a lot about ourselves

There has always been an element of connection. When we connect to things within us and outside of us, we feel better. When we isolate ourselves, feel unsupported we struggle, and don’t know how we will get through. Disconnecting with thoughts and emotions because they are painful and we don’t want to look at them can cause depression. Letting those thoughts be acknowledged and accepted leads us to healing. Re-connecting, re-mending all parts of our minds and psyches leads to healing, just like our flesh.

CONNECTION is vital for our mental and emotional health

Thalita Angelika

(This is a whole discussion in itself but online interaction is not the same as physically being with people. We do not get the juiciness of the interaction, the energetic exchange. It feels and is different.)

Only people smiling are the ones actually interacting…

Nature, we all feel better in nature. Many of my favourite memories are in nature.

Nature has been scientifically proven to reduce our stress rates. Nature does a lot more and the ancients knew that, but science is a bit behind proving. Eventually, they will get there.

Nature is us, and when we are disconnected from it and live in big cities and never get the chance to put our feet in the soil we feel like shit. The earth is the best medicine. I believe that humans are the stewards of the land. We are the guardians of this planet and that is our purpose. I believe depression and anxiety rates are high because we are severely nature deprived, the nature vitamin is missing in our lives. As well, a big part of it is that humans are not connecting, protecting and fostering life/nature and deep down in our subconscious we know this.

Its time we change the story we are writing as a human species

When humans do heroic acts it is celebrated. When a person saves a dog or a child from drowning in an ice lake, when we save a baby bird that has fallen out of the nest we feel good. We feel like our life has meaning. Other people also feel good when they witness these acts. It opens their hearts. That is why we support and buy from organizations and companies that are trying to help and do good things.

Humans are life sustainer, creators and protectors and when we destroy life we suffer because we are life. Focusing on helping life outside of us, helps our life. Humans want to do the right thing and I believe, that when humans aren’t doing what they feel is right, or in alignment with their values, they feel guilty deep inside and this creates the source of inner conflict that leads to hopelessness, depression and anxiety.

Humans protect life.

We want to do the right thing, we want to save the oceans, we want to save the forests, we want to save the animals. We don’t want to pollute the environment. But we are busy, we may feel we do not have the energy to make change and don’t even know where to start, we may be focused on other things. Instead we may be hyper focused on our self, our own suffering and missing the bigger picture. That we are connected to all life forms and if they suffer, we suffer. Of course there is other issues, traumas, unhealthy belief systems, suppressed emotions within us that are contributing to our unhappiness but I am focused on our lack of connection with nature and living beings.

I am still sitting with this thought, and it will evolve and shift as I discover and cleanse my own perceptions. But what now feels to be true to me is that we are severely disconnected and as a human society in need of connection. Connection to self, to family and friends, to community, and to nature. Coming back to being protectors, guardians of the Mother Earth and living in accordance with fostering life. Choosing actions that create life and protect it rather than diminish it. Buying less things to fill our emptiness and instead connecting with living beings that brings us joy (be it people, animals, trees, flowers etc). Bringing in more of the sacred into our lives, and reconnecting to the little, simple things that make us human (complexity creates stress). I think we will find more peace then. Perhaps we won’t be as worried about the future, because we are doing what we want to see happen in the whole world.

If every person makes that change, to be more in connection with nature and living beings, to protect and help life, then we all change and the world changes. I wonder then if the hopelessness with diminish if not totally disappear?

What emotions and feelings came up as you read this? Anger, sadness, despair, worry, hope, interest, excitement? Be curious, explore it. What do you think and feel?

Nature is the Dreamscape

It was a flurry of a snowstorm.

Most people wouldn’t go out in that kind of weather, but I enjoy extremes, they always bring me insights.

I walked through the snow, creating fresh tracks. The satisfaction of being the first to walk the path, to create the trail. The wind was blowing the white specks of mother natures frozen perspiration- one by one they would land on my cheek and instantly melt and flow down my face.

Everything was white, except my cheeks which were rosy from the cold- and my 1980’s neon coloured ski jacket that had been handed down from my mom.

The trail, the trees, the sky, the fields, all matte in white. The birch trees looked so magical with their white bark and the white snow layered on top. It was all so dreamy.

In shamanism, we travel to the upper, lower and the parallel middle world. Everything is different there except one thing. Nature is the constant. No matter what world I have travelled to, nature is always there. For the first recognizable time, I saw the dream within the dream. I felt myself in my journey. Powerful.

I am the dreamer and I am the dream. I am the dreamer that dreamed the dream.

Nature gives us the unique ability to access differently levels of consciousness in this dimension. The dreamscape is accessible through nature. I believe that is why human beings love being in nature, it reawakens that magic within us, the mysterious is alive in nature. Even if we live in big cities and forget about the sacredness of nature or don’t have a strong relationship developed with nature, we still feel it when we go into a forest, walk along the ocean or dive into a lake.

The other world is right there, waiting for us to awaken to it.

The next time you have the chance to walk in nature, put your phone away. Embrace the silence and see the wonder unfolding before you. Maybe, just maybe she will open herself to you and you will see into the other world, into the dream that you are dreaming.

Maybe just maybe, you will see the magic that is right there with you.

Don’t Follow the Trends, Find Out Who You Are.

Fab diets, a certain type of yoga, a different meditation, it changes every week. What is popular is based on what is trending, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that what is popular will be good for you or even work for you. We are all very different and what may work for one person may not work for another person. It is about finding what works for you, this can change based on what period of your life you are in and what your lifestyle is.

It is for this reason I love Ayurveda. Because it helps to find out who you are (your unique body/mind composition) and from that place find things that work for you! How awesome is that! No more guessing.

Because we are all different and because we have different imbalances based on how we are living we all need different techniques, modalities, diets and lifestyle changes. We are all different. What works for one person, probably won’t work for a different person. This applies not only to food, but to yoga and meditation.

For example nuts may be great for a Vata, which will help ground them and give them the oil they desire because they are so dry. For a Pitta nuts will make them break out, or have too much oil. For a Kapha nuts will slow their digestion down and cause congestion. Food can be medicine for some, and poison for others.

A certain type of yoga practice for instance may be very beneficial for one person, but then when they get their friend to try it, they may find their friend doesn’t have the same reaction. Perhaps they may even feel agitated or irritated. This applies to meditation as well. Perhaps a meditation was really working for you at some point in your life. You were able to relax and let go and felt at peace, but then life changes and things become very chaotic and you have a very hard time focusing with the mediation you are doing. After some time you give up the practice because you are not able to keep up with it because you have too much going on and your mind is way to active, in that case switching to another form that helps to calm the rajasic mind would be more necessary.

Oftentimes we think, I am meditating, I am doing yoga, I am eating lots of vegetables etc, I should feel better. However, what you may be doing may not be right for YOU exactly. Just because it is mainstream or popular or because it worked for your neighbour doesn’t mean it will work for you.

I think knowing this is it important, otherwise we can get caught up in guilt or shame. Thinking we aren’t doing it right, or hard enough. That there must be something wrong with us because even though we think we are doing it all right, we aren’t getting positive results.

What is healthy for a person is based on a person and where they are in their life. We have to honour our differences, embrace them and then we can thrive in body, mind and spirit!

I am currently offering a body, mind and soul package which includes an Ayurvedic consultation (to let you know what your dosha is and your imbalance as well as advice to bring your mind, mind back into balance through food, vitamins and herbs). I offer one shamanic coaching session where we find your power animal, the animal that is most like you soul. This animal serves as a helper for you in your life. 3rd, I design a meditation practice that suits your lifestyle and what you currently need to have more mental peace in your life. Regulary 300$, I am offering it for an amazing price of 180$. Email me at thalita.angelika@gmail.com if you are interested.

Opening the Heart

Being disconnected from the heart’s energy, is one of the hardest things I have ever had to overcome. Feeling numb, disconnected, stressed, anxious, unsure of how you feel about this and feeling nothing at all. It’s as though one just walks through life, unaffected and zombie-like. Not really feeling or taking anything in, ones passion’s create no more zest. It’s looking alive, but being dead inside.

I struggled with this for numerous years after betrayal and trauma left my heart closed. I didn’t want to feel, I didn’t want to go there. It was easier to live life at that time being shut off. But then, at some point, I needed to feel again because not feeling got worst than feeling the pain. I became so uncomfortable with the suffering I was repressing. I thought I was safe this way. When really, I was still getting hurt by things, but I was numb, what a paradox. What I was really blocking out was joy, love, happiness, peace! I was numb to all that good! Isn’t that crazy. My heart was blocked, but what it blocked off was all of life’s good stuff.

I did everything I possibly could, you name it; affirmations, ayahuasca, vision quests, meditation, yoga, shamanism, counselling, coaching, herbs, crystals, Ayurvedic practices, exercises, flower essences, breath work, honopono etc.

Everything worked, if even just a little. I won’t tell you there is ONE magic cure that will blast your heart open and you will feel happy and wonderful again. No, it takes intention and dedication. It takes courage to face the pain, the emotions that made you shut down, and the trauma that hurt you. It takes authentic self reflection, self forgiveness, and self acceptance to say you did your best and that is okay, you may not be perfect but that is okay, what happened to you may not be ok, but you are ok. And maybe you aren’t even okay right now, but you will be okay at some point in the future. Your life may not be perfect, but after all of that, you are still ENOUGH! No matter what you are enough. And you are still okay. You made it, you are a surviver and you are a badass spiritual warrior.

There is no magic cure to anything (I believe). It is an accumulation of many things.

How to start the healing process?

Your intention is important. Starting with intention is a great start. It is stating what you want to happen, with your power behind it. It is creating a force field into the universe. When you make a strong commitment you bend energy to your will.

Then listening to the universe, paying attention to signs. People you keep hearing about, or feel drawn to, places, things you feel a pull, a draw too. Explore it! You never know where it may lead.

Opening the heart after trauma, a break up, betrayal etc can be tricky because the body remembers the pain and wants to protect itself. It may open for a short time and then shut back down again. This happened to me, what feels like a hundred times. What I can say for this is that it takes patience. It will happen, maybe not right away but trust that. Maybe you are learning something, maybe there is more to uncover and maybe you just aren’t ready yet. And, that is okay. Everything takes its own time. The apple falls when it is ripe. Your heart will open in due time. You will trust in yourself again in due time. Be patient, I know it’s not easy but there are greater things at work than what we are aware of. The first step to healing is saying you are ready.

I know there is lots of tips and how to’s on the internet to open your heart and just so you are not disappointed here is some ūüėõ

My book ‘Rise in Love’ is available on amazon, it has exercises and goes more into depth with love, self love and relationships and healing work. If you are interested you can take a look, it is also sold in Vancouver at Yoga West (kits). I also offer coaching/ healing/energy work services if you are interested in working with me and feel ready but need support with your healing journey.

Magic – The Real Power Behind Intention

Magic? What is it exactly? Hollywood and many authors have shown it as something witches and wizards possess. They use it to their advantage against innocent victims. It’s been presented in a very dark and twisted way. But it’s not like that at all!

Magic is mystical but it is positive and there are rules that come with using magic. What would we say magic is? I believe magic is a creation of desired events that appear miraculously because it transcends time and space in how it presents itself.

How we do we get magic in our lives?

It comes through using the mind as a focused and precise channel for creation.

Anyone is capable of making magic!

It is using your mind in a clear and focused way, channeling your intention in whatever you are doing and seeing (visualizing) your desired goal. Human beings were made in the image of God (as many monotheistic¬†traditions say), that means we have the same capacity to create. However, our minds are full of thoughts. We create many things we don’t want because our thoughts are messy. We think about the problems we have, we focus on the drama or our dog ripping apart our sofa. When those thoughts get cleared with techniques like meditation and yoga then we begin to be able to focus on our thoughts in a constructive manner.

You are what you think and your dreams are directly correlated with how your life looks like. You can tell the limit of people’s thoughts by how their life is. If you believe something is impossible, it becomes impossible. The matrix is real and it is here and now, but it’s not in the way you think. It’s in your mind, not outside of you. ¬†Your ability to control your thoughts directly impacts the environment around you.

A human being is a creator and they all possess the ability to manifest magic.

It is believing that you have this ability, it is a belief in your ability to create, that allows this gift to blossom.

Magic is here and now and it’s only desire is for you to awaken and use it. You are powerful, you create everything around you both good and bad. What will you choose?

 Laws of Magic:

  • Do no harm.
  • Whatever you do will come back to you 3x times, either good or bad. So focus on the good
  • Make sure that you are not intending to interfere in anyone’s life or take away their free will
  • Be clear- affirm your intention strongly. If you don’t take it seriously, how can the universe?
  • visualize your intention as being a success, feel it, smell it, taste it. Engage all of your senses
  • Have fun ūüôā
